Cyclist injured after being struck by minivan in Cairns CBD

A woman has been treated by paramedics for minor injuries sustained after being hit by a minivan while riding her bike.

A woman in her 20s has been hopsitalised after she was reportedly hit by a van while cycling in the Cairns CBD.

Queensland Ambulance Service crews were called to the intersection of Lake and Florence streets around 8.30am this morning after the woman was struck by the vehicle.

A QAS spokeswoman confirmed that two ambulance crews were on the scene.

“We have been called to what looks like a cyclist and bus incident and we are currently assessing a female in her 20s,” she said.

Only one patient was treated by paramedics.

At 9am a QAS spokeswoman confirmed the woman had been taken to hospital.

“W have transported the woman in her 20s to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition, we understand she has no major injuries,” she said.

Earlier emergency services were been called to a two car crash in Edmonton that caused one vehicle to flip over.

At 6.11am the Queensland Fire Department, police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Hardwick Cl and Petersen Rd in Edmonton after two cars collided.

There was no entrapment of occupants who managed to self extricate before help arrived.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said one patient was being treated at the scene for minor injuries.

“There may be one transported to hospital,” she said.

The Wednesday morning crash followed a woman being taken to hospital following a two-vehicle crash in the Cairns CBD on Tuesday.

Emergency services responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash involving an MG SUV and Toyota Corolla at the intersection of Grafton Street and Aplin Street at 11.15am on Tuesday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed a female patient had been transported to Cairns Hospital with minor injuries.
“Crews transported one female patient with neck pain in a stable condition,” the spokeswoman said.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman confirmed two crews attended the scene.

“Crews remained on scene until the vehicles were removed,” the spokeswoman said.

“They also cleaned up a minor spill related off the roadway related to the crash.”
