A leading national gym franchise is expanding into Far North Queensland for the first time, opening a Cairns 24/7 fitness centre early in the new year.

The international brand founded in 2003 and headquartered in the USA now operates 260 locations throughout Australia, 40 per cent of which are in Queensland but until now Snap Fitness has been absent from Cairns.

But just in time to help with New Year resolutions, the first 24/7 Snap Fitness club is set to open in February 2025 at Raintrees Shopping Centre.

Franchisees of Snap Fitness Cairns Nathan and Angie Daley said the wait was finally over and they were excited to bring the global brand to Cairns.

“We are excited to announce Snap Fitness is finally coming to Cairns,” Mr Daley said.

“The first club will open in early February at the Raintrees Shopping Centre, Manunda and we can’t wait.

“The new club will offer the latest training equipment in a functional environment that has a dedicated pilates studio, open plan weights area and a cardio room – no matter how you like to train, the new Snap Fitness caters for all your needs.

“This will be the first Snap Fitness Club in the region with more to come.

“As we gear up for the grand opening, we are looking to on-board foundation members as well as fill a variety of fitness career opportunities.”

The Raintrees Shopping Centre announced an upgrade in 2022 which included the demolition of the existing Woolworths store, and construction of the supermarkets larger space, more retail tenancies and mall space, including new entry way to rear carparking area.

A massive $20m rejuvenation announced for Raintrees in 2022 made Cairns’ oldest shopping centre attractive to the fitness brand.

Snap Fitness national sales manager Gabe Condello said the entry into the Cairns market was off the back of strong population growth and heightened demand for fitness facilities that offered 24/7 secure access.

“Given the population growth in Cairns and the active lifestyles of many, we wanted to be able to launch our brand when we could open more than just one club,” Mr Condello said.

“This means more of the Cairns community can have convenient access to a Snap Fitness in their local area.”

Raintrees Shopping Centre Manager Karen Stabile welcomed the diversity the new fitness centre would bring to the Manunda retail hub.

“Adding Snap Fitness to our tenant portfolio means the community can now mix in a bit of pilates or a quick workout as well,” she said.
