A young woman was rushed to hospital after allegedly being stabbed in the back during an altercation at a property in Far North Queensland.

Emergency services were called to a home in Yarrabah — a regional town about 60km from Cairns — just after 3am on Saturday, July 19, following reports of a violent incident.

Police allege 33-year-old Lionel Wyndham Harry Bounghi threw a knife during an argument with the woman, striking her in the back.

She was initially treated locally before being transported by road to Cairns Hospital around 6am.

“The woman sustained serious injuries and was conveyed to Cairns Hospital for medical treatment,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.

Mr Bounghi was charged with one count of acts intended to cause Grievous bodily harm and appeared in Cairns Magistrate court July 21.

His case was adjourned till September 9, 2025.
