A cherished mother of two from Malanda, killed in a two car crash on the Atherton Tablelands, has been remembered for her caring nature and friendly smile.

Jaimie-lee Paterson died at the corner of Lake Barrine and Anderson roads, Peeramon, on Sunday, April 21, after the Toyota HiLux she was a passenger in collided with a Nissan Patrol near the Winfield bridge.

The 43-year-old nursing assistant at the Ozcare Malanda Aged Care Facility is survived by her two children Mitchell and Indy-lee Collins.

In a heartbreaking tribute online, Miss Collins said she was “completely shattered” by the loss of her mum who had been her “protector, best friend and partner in crime”.

“You never even got the title nan/grandma or to meet your grandbabies, you won’t be here to watch us get married, but lastly, you won’t be here to see any of our big achievements,” she wrote.

The Malanda mother was formerly of Townsville and Darwin and also spent time living at Groote Eylandt.

Following the crash the Forensic Crash Unit put out an appeal for witnesses or information to help investigating officers piece together what happened.

Initial investigations indicate a white Toyota HiLux and a red Nissan Patrol were travelling in the same direction along Lake Barrine Rd before they crashed at around 5.30am.

The driver of the Nissan Patrol was not physically injured but the 42-year-old male driver of the HiLux was taken to the Atherton Hospital with neck and arm injuries.

Investigators are eager to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of the incident, or moments leading up to it.
