Queensland’s politicians are in town for the week for the regional sitting of state parliament and have been dropping some goodies for the region here and there.
The new vehicles presented to Cairns police are among 45 hybrid electric cars being rolled out across Queensland’s police force.
The new patrol car design features Indigenous artwork and will be used as part of Operation Victor Unison, which aimed to enhance public safety through highly visible crime hotspot patrols.
Police Minister Mark Ryan said the additional vehicles would have many benefits for the community.
“I’m pleased to see QPS is taking its extreme high visibility patrols to the next level with these striking patrol vehicle designs,” Mr Ryan said.
“We know this is the way of the future and I commend the QPS for ensuring its huge vehicle fleet is hi-tech and sustainable.”
