Motorbike rider has died after crash with garbage truck in Gordonvale

A motorcyclist has died following a crash in Gordonvale this afternoon after colliding with a garbage truck on Campbell St.

A motorcyclist has died following a crash in Gordonvale this afternoon after colliding with a garbage truck on Campbell St.

Police closed the street and declared a crime scene after responding to the incident about 1pm.

“The rider, a 60-year-old Gordonvale man, died at the scene,” a police spokesman said.

Fire crews were also on scene.

“The driver of the motorcycle was under the truck,” a QFES spokesman said.

Police declared a crime scene at the time of the event.

“We’re making the area safe,” the spokesman said.

A spokesman for Cairns Regional Council confirmed the garbage truck belonged to a council contractor but could not make further comment.

The Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.
