The 33-year-old has been in custody on remand since his arrest in September 2023.

His case was updated at Toowoomba Magistrates Court on December 5.

Skuse Graham Criminal Lawyers solicitor Paige Hetherington appeared in court as a town agent for MacDonald Law Toowoomba and Ashkan Tai Lawyers.

Ms Hetherington sought leave for the Toowoomba based firm, MacDonald Law, to withdraw from the case, which was approved by magistrate Kay Philipson.

“In relation to Ashkan Tai, Mr Ruijter engaged their office on the 20th of November,” she said.

“They’ve received the brief of evidence, bar some material.”

Ashkan Tai Lawyers is an award-winning Queensland firm based at Southport on the Gold Coast.

Ms Hetherington said Mr Ruijter’s new legal team was still waiting on a drug analysis certificate and a police officer’s statement.

“I’ve liaised with (police prosecution) as to when that is likely to be received, and there is a bit of a delay in respect of the certificate,” she said.

Ms Philipson adjourned the matter to next be mentioned before the court on February 20.

Mr Ruijter has not as yet applied for bail and has not been required to enter any pleas to the charges.
