The Brisbane cafe serving a bargain breakfast

Think it’s not possible to enjoy a breakfast featuring delicious French patisserie-inspired creations in elegant surroundings... with drinks... for less than $40 in Brisbane? Think again.

Crazy coffee creations from around the globe

Breakfast for two including drinks for under $40 is anachronistically generous. But this bygone pricing is only part of the appeal of Mount Gravatt’s Little Glass Room Espresso Bar.

Adjacent to the Mount Gravatt Library and alongside a physio on busy Logan Rd, what awaits behind the rather unassuming facade is a compact but modern and elegant eatery where timber detailing and cabinets of cakes and croissants give a nod to Paris patisseries.

But that’s where the European influences end. The cafe instead offers a mostly Thai-inspired all-day menu, running from crab omelette ($18) and forbidden rice ($15) to Thai soups ($16) and a terrifically tasty pad see ew ($16) – the soy-lacquered noodles coiled tightly into almost gnocchi-like balls accompanying a mound of wok-tossed beef. Delicious.

There are Western favourites too such as a big brekky, eggs benny and avo on toast, as well as their signature salad and protein-filled baguettes. The pork belly version ($7.50) gets a hint of nuttiness from a tahini-like drizzle, while a lipsmacking sriracha-spiked mayo makes it pop.

For the truly gluttonous, though, there is The Grande Platter for two, where $45 will get you four poached eggs, four slices of sourdough, streaky bacon, chorizo, avocado, grilled tomato, haloumi, hash browns, fruit, and black sticky rice pudding.

Sweet and obsequious staff run the floor delivering well-made The Cat’s Pyjamas coffee (including cold drip and batch brew) alongside the likes of iced drinks, Thai teas, milkshakes and refreshing cold pressed juices. The orange juice is just what you want on a hot summer’s day.

In a huge coup for Little Glass Room, the eatery last month won the Cafe Dining and overall Casual Dining of the Year trophies in the annual Restaurant and Catering Queensland and Northern Territory Awards.

The gongs back up the fact that this eatery is a special kind of quiet achiever. From its no-frill carpark exterior to its humble staff, Little Glass Room is not shouting for attention nor bragging about its achievements. Instead it lets its quality offering speak for itself. And that sound is as silky as having Chris Hemsworth read you a bedtime story.
