Lessons in love for bride and groom who met learning piano
Frank’s decision to learn the piano proved particularly fruitful. As well as adding to his skill set he also picked up a wife.

This groom got more than he bargained for when he started taking piano lessons. For when Frank Jiang’s teacher asked him to drive another student home he agreed and was introduced to Linda Zhang.

“I started piano in my first year at uni,” he explains. “Knowing that I was a super late beginner I was determined to put in tremendous effort and make something good out of it. However, it seemed fate had a different plan for me.
“Fast forward a few years now and I haven’t become a pianist but I certainly found myself a beautiful wife.”
The couple, of Bridgeman Downs, in Brisbane’s north, tied the knot at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, South Brisbane, followed by a reception for more than 100 guests at the neighbouring Greek Club.
The newlyweds delayed their honeymoon and are planning to head to Turkey next year.
“We want to really experience the fascinating culture of the swooping valley of Cappadocia,” says Linda.
How did Frank propose?
After we been together for about four years, Frank asked me if we should go on a mini trip to Bali. On a Friday night during the trip, we came back from dinner and he led me to our private villa, with a pool full of rose petals floating atop and a big floral sign that said “will you marry me?”, he got down to one knee and asked the question.
What made this uniquely your wedding?
We really wanted our groomsmen and bridesmaids to share the fun too. We asked all of them to attend dancing lessons (they gladly accepted), where we choreographed a group dance to wow all the guests.
Funny moments?
After our ceremony, Frank told me to wait outside the church. He kept looking at the sky with the photographer and nothing was happening. Little did I know they were waiting for a skywriting pilot to perform a special romantic message. In the end it was too cloudy to see it, but the nice pilot gave us a surprise when he performed again a week after at Kangaroo Point.
Best advice for other couples planning a wedding?
Don’t be frustrated or upset if things don’t go as planned, as life is all about moving with the flow. Occasional surprises are not such a bad thing.
