Couple win their dream wedding day
Set in the picturesque foothills of the Gold Coast’s Springbrook National Park, the site captured an intimate atmosphere to celebrate with friends and family.
The couple, of Ashmore, on the Gold Coast, tied the knot in the charming open-air chapel overlooking the tranquil waters of Mudgeeraba Creek. Eighty guests then toasted their happiness with breathtaking views over the gardens and lake.
Remembering the special day, Beth says, “The ceremony was just the right balance of warm, funny and traditional – it was just perfect for us.
“Rich’s uncles, aunts and a few cousins came over from New Zealand, as well as friends who came from Melbourne, north Queensland, New South Wales and Perth.”
How did Richard propose?
On our sixth anniversary, while we were away at Mooloolaba. We go away every year for our anniversary to Landmark Resort & Spa, Mooloolaba and get a top-floor room with a private rooftop spa looking over the beach.
Last year, Rich got up unusually early. He really wanted to do “presents”, which I thought was strange. We went to the spa and he had a large package wrapped in a towel and asked me to close my eyes. I thought it was going to be Peter Alexander PJs but when I opened my eyes he was on one knee. His proposal was a surprise because he’d said early in our relationship he’d never propose on a special day like Valentine’s Day or an anniversary.

What made this uniquely your wedding?
Both of us were involved in the planning so I knew that everything we chose was “us”.
On a display we had wedding pictures of our parents’ and grandparents’ weddings. That was really special as there were photos of people who weren’t there such as both my grandmothers and Rich’s father, who have all passed away. It felt like a lovely way to honour them and celebrate the marriages in our families.
Special memories?
My 101-year-old grandfather recorded a video for us, which was a beautiful surprise. He was unable to be there because his mobility has declined, so it was really special.
Funny moments?
I ordered white monogrammed slippers for the bridesmaids, mother of bride, mother of groom and myself. When they were delivered, the postman slid them under our front gate – where our puppy is. When Richard arrived home from work, they were chewed to pieces and there was a sea of white foam all over the grass. Thankfully the company replaced them.
Best advice for other couples planning a wedding?
Plan together. It is a special day for the both of you, so it is important that the both of you love the choices that are made.
Also, be relaxed about the planning. If something doesn’t work out, there will always be a “Plan B”. It will mean that on the day, you are both stress-free so you can enjoy it.
