'I wish away my life and time with my toddler while she’s still so young'

"I long for the end of the day, every single day."

Mum's advice to parents with 'exhausting' kids

We all know it takes just the blink of an eye, and your baby is suddenly fully grown.

But one mum says her blinks are feeling more tiresome by the day.

“I’m literally wishing away my life and time with my toddler while she’s still so young,” the mum admitted.

"I feel so guilty"

In Reddit’s parenting forum, the mother revealed she finds herself wishing for the end of the day, every day.

“I can’t wait for her to go to bed every night,” she confessed.

“This is a me problem, not her. She’s amazing, fun, and funny. She’s a good sleeper and eater and generally very well-behaved.”

The core of the issue is an experience universally felt by parents.

“I’m overwhelmed as a parent, overstimulated, tired, and just want to veg out every night because my brain is so full,” she shared.

"Best part of the day"

It’s left the mother wondering if these feelings will ever go away and whether she’ll ever truly enjoy her time with her little one. It’s been weighing on her mind for a while now.

“Has anyone else felt like this for a long time, like more than 19 months. What did you do? How did you get out of it?” she asked the forum.

Readers flooded the comment section with empathy and reassurance.

“Bedtime is the best part of the day. This is a well-known fact,” read the most popular response.

“It is amazing how we can love something so completely, do everything we can to meet their needs, but come 7 pm... not want to talk to it ever again. Until tomorrow.”

Others could relate to how the mum was feeling.

“Motherhood would be absolutely perfect if kids went to bed at like 4pm, right before you had to figure out dinner and they became gremlins,” joked one mother.

“I’ve had PPD for nearly ten months now, and every single day is a struggle. I don’t want to look back and regret these days, but I just can’t enjoy anything. I despise who I’ve become. I’m not the mum I want to be,” shared another.

“This is just parenting. You can love them more than your own life and still just desperately want them to go the eff to sleep,” offered a third.

Some commenters suggested she consult a professional.

It seems parents, both on the forum and in everyday life, agree that modern parenting isn’t a walk in the park.

Counting down the minutes to bedtime isn’t something any parent is alone in doing.
