Whenever Aldi announces its much-loved Special Buys deal, shoppers go a little crazy — and for good reason.
Among the chaos of waiting in line and rushing to the “middle section” of the store, most customers walk out beaming, having nabbed a pretty good bargain.
This Saturday will be no different.
For the first time ever, included in the Special Buys deal is a $299 sofa bed, and it’s expected to sell very, very fast thanks to its affordable price.
“The competitive retail, on-trend design and quality construction will make this a popular Special Buy,” an Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au
A similar sofa bed can easily sell for more than double that price at other Aussie retailers.
Weighing in at 48kg, the couch has a solid wood frame and legs, durable fabric upholstery, includes two bolster cushions with removable covers and has a simple click-clack mechanism to turn it from a sofa into a bed.
It also comes in two colours — grey and cream.
But the German retail giant is warning customers to come prepared with a friend.
Not because the company is always handy, especially in those long lines, but mainly because the fold-out has been described as a “very heavy” and “bulky” item and a mate and trolley is required to help you wheel it out.
“Product is likely to cause injury to customer if risk controls are not utilised,” it specifically states on the Aldi website — so come prepared.
Aldi warns that not all stores across the country will stock the Special Buys deal, and they are: Aurora, Bell Park, Bentleigh, Bondi, Brunswick, Carnegie, Charlestown, Doncaster East, Forster, Gosford, Highton, Joondalup, Kelvin Grove, Lower Templestowe, Manly, Miranda, Moonee Ponds, Northcote, Plenty Valley, Preston, Taree or Tarneit Central.
“Despite our careful planning, we apologise if selected items may sell out on the first day due to unexpected high demand,” it warns on its site.

Aldi posted an ad for their fridge online last week, recruiting Aussie cafe owner Mel Grob to point out the most impressive features of the appliance.
Mel explained the fridge had four doors, a touch panel and plenty of room inside for storing your favourite things — like, yourself, for instance.
According to Mel, the fridge also has “loads of door storage, LED lighting and adjustable glass shelves”.
“It also has a humidity and temperature-controlled fresh zone to keep fruit and vegies fresher for longer,” she said.
The fridge can be set to eco mode to save electricity, holiday mode when you’re away and super freezing mode to freeze food fast.
There’s appears to be plenty on offer at Aldi this week — just don’t forget to bring a mate.
