Shoppers lose it over $39 Kmart dupe of $390 homewares item

Kmart is no stranger to a good dupe, but this one might just take the cake, with it already flying off the shelves.

Kmart is back dominating the TikTok algorithms of DIY enthusiasts, thanks to a recent release – the Iggy Side Table, priced at just $39.

This stylish piece is a direct dupe for the much pricier $390 Ziggy Stump from Fenton & Fenton, making it a hit among budget-conscious shoppers.

The item makes for an eye-catching accent piece for any bedroom or living area and can be used as a decor item or as a functional table.

While Fenton & Fenton’s version comes in a variety of colours, the Kmart one is available in a chic sage green finish.

However, a Brisbane-based interior stylist @stylingdiarieswithtash shared a video recently showing her followers how she transformed the table to suit the different colour palettes in her home.

“If you love a good dupe, keep watching,” she says.

“I rushed to Kmart for the Iggy Side Table. For just $39, it’s a dupe for the Fenton & Fenton Ziggy Stump. Now, for $390, it’s just not in my budget, but I’ve always loved it.”

She particularly liked the higher-end option because of the trendy colourways, so decided to head to Bunnings to buy some spray paint – a rich chocolate brown and a baby pink.

She used the Squirts brand because of it’s great coverage and she only needed to use one can.

“Look how cute this one looks in my guest bedroom, I love pairing browns with pinks and purples and it looks so similar to the original but without the high price tag,” she said.

“The baby pink I absolutely love, I’m going to do a couple more coats over it, but I’m so happy with these dupes.”

In the caption, she explained that the tables can be used in a few ways, including as a bedside table, a side table, next to a couch or chair, or a plant stand.

Followers were quick to respond in the comments, applauding the creative hack.

“OMG, your spray painting convinced me. I was like, ugh, Kmart with the ugly colours, but now …” one user exclaimed.

“Such a good idea,” wrote another.

Others called it “genius” and even laughed at how the Kmart version is called Iggy, just one letter different from the Fenton & Fenton Ziggy.

It comes as Kmart’s February Living range launched last week, offering a brand new selection of aesthetic, luxurious-looking pieces for budget-friendly prices.

Designed to address cost-of-living pressures while delivering on style, the range features larger statement furniture pieces, trendy home decor, and smart storage solutions.

Kmart’s home buyer Nicholas Holmes acknowledged that Australians were still experiencing cost-of-living pressures and wanted to offer customers “accessible ways to refresh their space at an affordable price point”.
