Aussie smoothie business Boost Juice has sent fans into meltdown, announcing a line of new drinks containing seaweed.
The latest creations include the “Pash & Splash” with seaweed, passionfruit, mango, orange juice, tropical juice, sorbet and ice; and the “Sea & Tea” with seaweed, green tea, mango, mango nectar, frozen coconut cream, mango yoghurt and ice.
But the kooky flavours have had a mixed reaction on social media, with fans of the brand demanding a “try before you buy” sample option, and other simply unimpressed.
One follower replied to the announcement with a vomiting gif, while others commented the likes of “Ewww” and “Nope. Don’t like that”.
But Boost has backed its bizarre new blends, saying the seaweed adds hints of saltiness and umami, and insisting they taste better than they sound.
“Cheekiness has always been at the forefront of the Boost brand,” said Janine Allis, founder of Boost Juice Australia.
“We love pushing the boundaries with new flavour profiles and testing unique combinations that might sound shocking to most. They always spark discussion or debate and taste delicious too!
“Our Seaweed range is a nod to the trending snack and brings unexpected combinations that are innovative and will wow customers.”
The drinks are available in stores now for a limited time.
