A Brisbane restaurateur’s company, which established a popular waterfront venue on the Sunshine Coast, has entered voluntary administration with an estimated debt of more than $2m.
The Brisbane-based company, Pier 33 Pty Ltd, was placed into administration last week, according to an Australian Securities and Investments Commission notice.
Christopher John Baskerville of Jirsch Sutherland was appointed as the company’s administrator on November 11, 2024, and estimates the company’s debt to be more than $2m.
The main creditor is understood to be the Australian Taxation Office, owed a debt of about $800,000.
A debt of about $1m is owed to related parties of Pier 33 Pty Ltd.
Mr Baskerville said initial investigations showed the business had been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and all employee entitlements had been paid prior to his appointment.
ASIC documents stated Pier 33 Pty Ltd is currently directed by Andrew Victor Hohns, who also acts as the company’s secretary.
Mr Hohns was a key figure in the partnership that opened Pier 33 in 2017, replacing the Mooloolaba Yacht Club.
The documents state the company was initially set to enter a creditors’ voluntary liquidation, before the appointment was changed to an administration process instead.
Further ASIC documents also show Mr Hohns is a shareholder in the well-known Rick Shores restaurant in Burleigh Heads.
The Pier 33 venue was recently taken over by new owners and underwent extensive renovations in August 2024.
