It’s the food festival that helped put Queensland’s tropical north on the culinary map, and now Kitchen Confidential can exclusively reveal that Taste Port Douglas will return in 2022.
The coveted event made a spectacular comeback in October after a four-year absence and is hoping to continue the positive momentum of this year’s festivities into next year.
Held at the stunning Sheraton Grand Mirage in Port Douglas, the foodie extravaganza will run from August 11-14 and will showcase the best of the region’s produce from seafood to tropical fruits throughout a variety of lunches, dinners, cooking demonstrations and masterclasses.
Hosting the series of events will be some of the country’s finest chefs, though organisers are keeping tight-lipped on the celeb line-up at the minute.
“I can confirm that some of Australia’s greatest chefs – new and returning to the festival – will be making their way north for the event (and) we are also looking to expand beyond Australian kitchens for the 2022 line up,” said Spencer Patrick, culinary director of Taste Port Douglas and chef-owner of Port Douglas restaurant Harrisons.
Despite this year’s event only being open to Queensland and South Australian guests because of border closures, Mr Patrick said it was a huge success – pumping millions into the local economy, with next year to be even bigger and better.
“We’re looking forward to having the whole of Australia and hopefully the world open to being our audience in 2022 to see even stronger results across the board,” he said.
And ensuring the festival’s future is Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, which has signed on to partner the event for the next three years.
“We are excited to support Taste Port Douglas in bringing people together through delicious food and drink with a strong sense of community,” the resort’s general manager Steve Molnar said.
