AN almost 40-year-old Sunshine Coast trattoria along with a Townsville fine diner are among the Queensland restaurants judged the best in the country on online reservations platform OpenTable.

The booking website analysed more than 380,000 of its diner reviews for thousands of restaurants across the country from October last year to September this year and found the Top 50 highest achievers for Australia.

Making the cut were 17 restaurants from the Sunshine State, coming in only one behind top performer Victoria, which had 18 eateries on the list.

The unranked list featured Queensland culinary hot spots such as Townsville’s A Touch of Salt, 39-year-old Mooloolaba Italian restaurant Bella Venezia Restaurant and Bar and Gold Coast pan-Asian Etsu Izakaya in Mermaid Beach.

“This year’s list shows that diners are looking beyond the main cities for great quality dining, and regional restaurants are increasingly serving up fantastic experiences,” said Drew Bowering, senior APAC director at OpenTable.

The list also promotes some of Queensland’s smaller venues alongside some of the most coveted food establishments in the country including Vue de Monde and The Carlton Wine Room in Melbourne and Sydney’s Pellegrino 2000.
