Lune, Agnes or Jocelyn’s Provisions? We go looking for Brisbane’s best croissant
It is the French pastry turned worldwide classic – the croissant. But where is the best one in Brisbane? I took it upon myself to find out, and I took it very seriously.

It is the French pastry turned worldwide classic – the croissant. A flaky, buttery crescent-shaped delight that can be eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Fortunately, we are blessed that Brisbane has a huge array of bakeries, all with their own versions of the iconic pastry.
But which one has the best croissant? I took it upon myself to find out, and I took it very seriously.

Driving around to the finest bakeries around town, my criteria was simple: Buttery-ness (that is now a word), flakiness, sweetness, fluffiness and crust.
Like I said – I was taking this very seriously.
Agnes Bakery
New Farm
James Street has its fair share of restaurants and eateries, and among them is the quaint Agnes Bakery. Ordering one of their plain croissants, I immediately noticed how golden and flaky the crust was.
Taking a bite of the pastry in the comfort of my car – I panicked and couldn’t find anywhere outside to sit – this croissant definitely packed in the flavour.
Lune Croissanterie
SouthBrisbane and Brisbane City
Tucked away in the urban streets of South Brisbane, Lune Croissanterie blew me away.
I couldn’t get over how buttery this croissant was, it was delicious and by far my favourite of the bunch.
I would’ve sat there with a coffee to savour it for a while but I had very important croissant investigations to do.
Christian Jacques Bakery
Kangaroo Point
Now I had heard this place had lines of customers every weekend, and I quickly realised why when I got my hands on one of Christian Jacques’ traditional croissants.
This one had the best crust – glossy, golden and very airy.
A bite revealed the inside was extremely fluffy and very sweet, but not as buttery as its competition at Lune.
Jocelyn’s Provisions
New Farm
Another iconic patisserie along James Street, I was not surprised to hear that Jocelyn’s Provisions had completely sold out of their plain croissants that day.
Panicked, I ordered their last croissant with ham, cheese, and tomato relish.
While it wasn’t the crunchiest of the five, this pastry was still filled with flavour and sweetness.
Bonus points because I got to eat the rest of it in New Farm park in the sun.
Bakers Delight

I have very fond memories of the iconic Bakers Delight, I am pretty sure I scoffed down a chocolate scone every day after primary school for a good while there.
But when I went to take a bite out of my croissant, I was just a little bit disappointed.
For me, it was a bit too doughy and didn’t have the best crustiness in my opinion.
Look it could be unfair to compare this one to the others, all artisan bakeries, but regardless, I was bummed.
Still, it was sweet, it was tasty, so I’ll give it that but I might have to stick to their custard scrolls from now on.
