Queensland farmers and producers have proved they’re some of the best in the country taking out a swag of awards at the annual delicious. Harvey Norman Produce Awards.
The national culinary competition celebrates the country’s best ingredients that have been grown, caught, sourced or produced across Australia in four major categories.
Taking out the From the Earth category this year was Mission Beach-based Fruit Forest Farm for its array of sweet and delicious tropical fruit including rambutans, mangosteens, soursop and rollinia.
“It’s a little bit humbling,” said owner and farmer Peter Salleras. “We were surprised when we got a state award for a start, so this is just incredible.”

Mr Salleras provides interesting and exotic tropical fruits to many of Queensland’s top restaurants and cafes and credited the win to the amazing microclimates at their North Queensland farm, as well as their consistent reliability and focus on flavour.
“Hopefully (the award) it’ll create interest and get the tropical fruit industry noticed beyond mangoes,” he said.
Queensland also claimed the award for Best New Product, which went to the beautifully sweet Cape Moreton Scarlet Prawn.
While eight Sunshine State producers took out gold medals, including Maleny Dairies on the Sunshine Coast for its Real Cream.
“What the cows give us is what we put in the tub. We don’t add permeates or extenders or anything like that and the result is an award-winning product,” said Maleny Dairies owner Ross Hopper.
A selection of the award-winning produce, including cheese, meat and wine, will be available as part of a new Produce to You box at delicious. online for national delivery. For the full list of winners see the November issue of delicious. on sale today
