Caffeine fiends listen up. A new, one-stop coffee shop is coming to Brisbane, delivering a full roastery to retail experience, including masterclasses, public tastings and new ways of producing and serving the blessed beans.

The brew hub will be the Queensland flagship operation for Sydney roasters Seven Miles, which currently supplies to more than 100 coffee shops and cafes across the state. It will open in Albion’s exciting, soon-to-launch culinary precinct Craft’d Grounds, in the city’s inner north.

Moving into an old timber mill at the site, the business will include a warehouse space, roasting area, retail section and kiosk, with patrons able to watch the bean to bag process while sipping their flat white.

“There’ll be a 15-seat high bar one metre above the roasting space where customers can watch the whole operation, so the theatre of it all will certainly be a factor,” said Seven Miles Queensland operations manager Ben Graham.

While the brand is best known in Queensland for its signature The Cat’s Pyjamas blend, unique to the state, the kiosk wants to give drinkers something new to try, pouring many other specialty varieties which will all be roasted on site.

“We’ve got a number of blends, flagship blends that are not very common up here which we’ll be serving … Cultivar(s) and Wilde [are some]. They are pretty exciting and a bit more funky and fruit forward,” Mr Graham said.

Also new will be some of their brewing methods. In addition to traditional espresso, the kiosk will offer a range of cold press, batch brews and filter, including the noteworthy single cup Seraphim system. Meanwhile, Mr Graham said some kooky signature drinks may also be on the cards – espresso tonic anyone? – alongside a broad selection of easy bites, such as pastries, charcuterie and sandwiches.

As for the retail space, it will sell everything from special brewing equipment and machines to coffee by the bag.

The hub is expected to produce up to 1.5 tonnes of coffee each week, while also becoming a training ground for both novice and professional baristas with teachings from their unique education and research centre.

“The intention is for education masterclasses, industry events, public tastings, things like that,” Mr Graham said.

The operation also plans to collaborate on drinks with other new tenancies at the precinct once everything is up and running, including brewery Brewtide and the new wine and cocktail bar.

Seven Miles hopes to start roasting at Albion by the end of the month, with the kiosk and retail space to open later in September.
