A popular inner-Brisbane cafe has been revealed to owe the Australian Taxation Office nearly $600,000 following court liquidation.
My Mistress Cafe in Clayfield entered liquidation last week after the Deputy Commissioner for Taxation applied to court for a winding up order, according to an Australian Securities and Investment Commission notice on Monday.
Liquidator Declan Lane said the company owed the ATO $593,182.27 as of last week.
“Currently, we are only aware of the ATO’s debt,” he said.
“Unfortunately, as it’s a court liquidation, presently we have very limited to no details surrounding the company.
“Our investigations are otherwise ongoing.”
The company is currently solely owned by its director, 64-year-old Rochedale South woman Susanne Redmond.
The cafe’s co-founder Rhiannon Redmond, who holds the same surname as the mysterious director, said she preferred not to comment as she had been unwell.
She described the last few years as being “horrendous” for her.
My Mistress Cafe on Sandgate Rd was a popular local spot for its food quality and its green courtyard seating.
The well-loved business was closed in February after nine years of operation with a sign on the window, saying “it’s now opened to new possibilities”.
Ms Redmond told the Courier-Mail earlier that she was “forever grateful for the laughs, banter, loyalty and love that has happened”.
An ATO spokesman said the office cannot comment on the tax affairs of any individual or entity due to obligations of confidentiality and privacy under the law.
