When it comes to a creating a cracking pie, there are few that beat Matt Roman. The Brisbane chef loves coming up with clever combos that push far beyond your regular steak and bacon. Think southern fried chicken and waffles, Mexican beef with cheese and jalapeño poppers, chilli caramel pork belly and his classic, the Jack Daniel’s barbecue pork rib. He’s a talent with a piece of pastry, even making pies for superstars like Eminem.

FACTORY 51

One of the most elegant buildings in the Coorparoo area, this casual bar, eatery and function venue is loved by locals as a place to enjoy a relaxed bevie or two. The fairy-lit courtyard bordered by red bricks is the spot to be, knocking back a cheeky frothie from one of the local brewers on tap, including Revel, Ballistic and All Inn Brewing. A casual menu is also in play with everything from share plates like wood-baked camembert and pork and veal meatballs to gnocchi, pizza and steak.

LA MACELLERIA

Considered by many as Brisbane’s best gelateria, La Macelleria serves up its classic range of true Italian gelato using methods taught in Bologna, Italy - the home of the gelato university. Expect traditional flavours such as tiramisu, chocolate, stracciatella and pistachio, alongside a couple more modern additions like salted caramel and raspberry cheesecake. There’s also gelato cakes for those celebrating a special occasion.
