Popular dating app Hinge is doing its bit to make sure sparks still fly while love-seeking singles are social distancing.

The popular dating app tonight launched a Dating from Home feature that allows users to signal when they’re ready to take their flirty messaging up a notch with a virtual date.

Here’s how it works.

While exchanging messages with a match, a Date from Home menu will appear at the bottom of the users’ conversation asking if they’re ready to go on a digital date.

If they want to move things off the app, they simply select that they’re ready to Date from Home.

Each users’ response remains private until the other person is ready too and once both have shared that they’re down for a virtual date, both are notified.

A recent study conducted by the Hinge team revealed that 70 per cent of its members would be open to a virtual date via Zoom, Facetime or other video platforms.

Chief product officer at Hinge, Tim MacGougan, said the feature was the easiest way for users to continue their dating lives during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“While we may need to be physically distant right now, we can still be socially connected,” he said.

Date from Home is available for all Hinge users now.

Hinge — which markets itself as the dating app for people who want to get off dating apps — is currently setting up a date every four seconds, and three out of four times users want to go on a second date.
