In spectacular timing a meteor was spotting blazing across the sky as Channel 9 weatherman Garry Youngberry began his live cross on Wednesday night – and the TV station wasn’t the only one who captured it on camera.
Donning a Maroons beanie and scarf on the roof of the Gambaro Hotel, Youngberry is just seconds into his live weather forecast when the flash of light shoots above his left shoulder.
Youngberry is unaware of the meteor and talks about the heaving Origin crowds lining Caxton St below him, while warning the cold weather is here to stay for the week.
Co-anchor Melissa Downes also doesn’t mention the unusual sight, but the network later noticed the flash of light and shared the live cross to its social media to point out the anomaly.
Brisbane locals also reported seeing the flash of light, which occurred just before 7pm.
Further north, Danielle Faldt captured the meteor as they drove to Maleny on the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
“Scuse the French – first time seeing one,” she wrote.
Sandi Brock also couldn’t contain her excitement when she spotted it in the skies over Moreton Bay.
There were also reports of sightings over Bundaberg and Hervey Bay.
