The final span to a much-anticipated new footbridge linking Brisbane’s CBD to Kangaroo Point has been added, with the bridge now 85 per cent complete.

The 100 tonne, 25m final span was craned into place from a barge before being secured to complete the 182.7m bridge.

“Once open, the bridge span will feature viewing platforms on either side, providing extraordinary 360-degree cityscape views,” Federal Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King said.

On the Kangaroo Point side, works to install a lift from C.T. White Park to the bridge deck and to construct stairs to Scott St are underway and the bridge’s above-water restaurant is also taking shape, with the framework installed and the roof nearing completion.

“The Kangaroo Point Bridge will be so much more than just a bridge,” said Brisbane City Council transport chair Ryan Murphy.

“Its incredible design in the heart of the city and fantastic dining options will make the Bridge an iconic must-see destination, connecting our CBD with the suburbs and making our lifestyle even better.”

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said that the bridge is expected to take 84,000 cars off the road each year with thousands of people using it per day.

“Travel times are anticipated to be reduced by up to 50 per cent, saving pedestrians up to 30 minutes when walking from both Kangaroo Point and The Gabba Stadium to the city,” he said.
