Having helped us discover the top establishments to find Brisbane’s best eggs benedicts, parmigianas and pizzas, we put the call out for readers to nominate their top bakeries.

10. Gerbino’s Bakery

Location: 166 Ashgrove Ave, Ashgrove

This authentic experience is a labour of love for four Italian brothers — Salvatore, Gaetano, Angelo and Davide — who set up their pastry shortly after moving to Brisbane in 1997.

You’ll find all sorts of sweet surprises here, with the team of Italian pastry chefs able to also bake up specialty cakes for any occasion, as well as homemade loaves and traditional biscotti.

Freshly baked onsite, Carby’s Bakehouse has become a crowd-favourite for its pies and sausage rolls in game day.

It’s equally renowned for its huge variety of cupcakes, slices, scones and bagels, which’ll go well with their barista-made coffee.

8. The Bakers Corner

4/18 Kenrose St, Carina

Sourdough is a real breadwinner here, with a large range of different varieties flying off the shelves. Their sourdough pizza bases in particular sell out each week.

If sweet, not sour, is your preference, their almond croissants and vanilla slice are selling like hot cakes.

7. Bakeologists

81 Merthyr Rd, New Farm

Home to some of the best sandwiches in Brisbane, Bakeologists have got a delicious lunch down to a fine science. Located in the bustling Merthyr Village, this joint also has barista-made coffee, freshly-baked pastries and artisan breads. Their “signature loaf” is the Malted barley pane italiano, and sourdough affecianados will appreciate that their white sourdough culture has been going strong for 12 years.

6. The Whisk

Those with a sweet tooth will be whisked away to their happy place after trying this patisserie’s creations. The Whisk specialises in desserts, with reviews glowing about pastries and especially their croissants.

Four locations dot inner-city Brisbane, and it’s easy to see why they’ve been so successful. Jocelyn’s Provisions does it all, from pastries to breads to savoury tarts and fritters. What sets this bakery apart is their cakes. Social media is overflowing with rave reviews for their specially-made creations, which taste as good as they look.

4. Chaffey’s Bakery

7/620 Moggill Rd, Chapel Hill

Proudly sourcing their ingredients from his local butcher, owner-operator Rob Chaffey says his sausage rolls and pies are done “old-school”. Committed to recreating the bakery from his small country town upbringing, Mr Chaffey says the hottest sellers are the classic Lamingtons, which go for $3 each or 6-pack for $15.

3. Crust & Co

140 Edmonstone St, Newmarket

Reviewers said they loved this place’s croissants, coffee and service. Opened in 2013 on the site of the old Red Brick Bakery in Newmarket, this venue was founded by French-Italian baker Sebastien Pisasale Visitors will be welcomed with the smell of freshly baked sourdough, rye and wholemeal loaves baked on premises.

2. Miettes Boulangerie Patisserie

8/158 Graceville Ave, Graceville

This French-inspired bakery made a big splash with readers, in no small part to its huge line-up of sourdough loaves, including cheese and herb, spelt and haloumi and mint varieties.

With a dedicated pastry chef and cook, Miettes has also become a favourite destination for those craving freshly made French treats. Located in leafy Graceville, it’s the perfect spot to have a croissant and coffee after a riverside morning walk.

With a commitment to tradition and an eye on sustainability, Flour and Chocolate has proven itself the fan favourite for pastry in Brisbane.

All of its artisan breads, pastries and cakes are made with Australian flour and free range eggs.

In addition to a wide variety of savoury sourdough and croissant options, Flour and Chocolate has, as the name suggests, a real focus on decadent cakes and brownies.

Their extra-extra large cakes, which go for a cool $150, can feed up to 45 people. There is also an extensive list of tarts, eclairs and slices.
