10. ARCHIVE BEER BOUTIQUE
100 Boundary St, West End
This craft beer haunt is on a mission to serve the best of domestic and imported beer and ciders in Brisbane, with 22 on tap and more than 400 bottled varieties.
They also serve two of Brisbane’s best parmigianas. The boutique bistro serves a classic chicken parmi with house slaw and chips, or for something with a twist, their “chicken parmo” topped with prosciutto, accompanied by house slaw and chips. Better yet, Wednesday night is “ribs and parmi” night, with a half kilo of parmi with a choice of three toppings plus chips and slaw for $20 or $25 with a drink.

9. THE PADDO TAVERN
186 Given Terrace, Paddington
The signature “Paddo” with ham, salsa and mozzarella is what draws diners to this inner-city pub. The iconic Paddo Tavern, a must-visit on game day at Suncorp Stadium, plates up five different styles of the pub parmi, with toppings such as German bratwurst and sauerkraut, Italian meatballs, and a Mexican version with jalapeños, chipotle beans, sour cream and guacamole.

For an eastern suburbs feast, head to the Carina Leagues Club for their classic chicken parmigiana. The club serves a “really good honest parmigiana” with a golden crumbed chicken breast, Napoli sauce, leg ham, two cheeses with a side of chips and garden salad ($19.90 for members and $21.90 for guests).

7. WATERLOO BAY HOTEL
75 Berrima St, Wynnum
This bayside hotel boasts a “monster chicken parmigiana” with a 300g chicken breast topped with smoked ham, Napoli sauce, grilled mozzarella cheese, served with crispy chips and garden salad (pictured above). The sought-after dish is served at both the bistro and pub at the hotel precinct.

6. ALBANY CREEK TAVERN
730 Albany Creek Rd, Albany Creek
This popular eatery is known for its steaks, but its take on the classic pub parmi is hugely popular. The Albany Creek Tavern plates up a classic golden-crumbed chicken schnitzel topped with leg ham, Napoli sauce and grilled mozzarella served with chips and garden salad ($22). Monday is schnitzel night, with a parmi for $19.

5. THE WICKHAM
308 Wickham St, Fortitude Valley
This popular hotel in the hub of the Valley was established in 1885 and is known for its relaxed beer garden and nightclub, and its decent pub fare. The Wickham plates up a vegetarian Italian style parmi with crumbed eggplant topped with parmesan and mozzarella, and a chicken parmi topped with Napoli sauce, ham and mozzarella with chips and salad.

4. ALGESTER SPORTS CLUB
41 Endiandra St, Algester
Along with the entertainment and social, competitive and barefoot lawn bowls, the Algester Sports Club, in the city’s southwest, promises classic meals with a price range to suit all. One of the chef’s creations is a 350g golden crumbed veal cutlet, topped with leg ham, Italian red sauce and mozzarella for $27 for members, and $29 for guests. There is also the classic chicken version with leg ham, Napoli sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese at the member’s price of $22.50 and $24.50 for guests.

3. PEEL STREET TAVERN
35 Peel St, South Brisbane
Like its sister tavern, Three Little Pigs, this South Brisbane pub is known for its Panko crumbed “Parmigianas of the world”, with favourites such as the Mexico Amigo with chilli con carne topped with sour cream and guacamole (pictured above right). Purists will appreciate there is also an original parmigiana with Napoli sauce, ham and a secret four-cheese blend, plus a few other creative versions such as the meatlovers, bruschetta and mac & cheese topped parmis.

Take a Contiki tour without leaving the pub by ordering from the “Parmigianas of the world” menu. Diners choose from 13 different versions of either crumbed steak or chicken that are inspired by destinations, such as a Down Under with Vegemite and cheese, New Zealand Fishermans with creamy garlic prawns, and Germany with pork bangers and mash. All are served with beer-battered chips and salad, or mash and vegetables.

This southside tavern has Brisbane parmi-lovers hooked, serving up three choices of parmi for lunch and dinner. Carnivores can feast on a Meatlover’s parmigiana — a golden crumbed chicken schnitzel topped with smoky barbecue sauce, smoked ham, bacon rasher, ground beef, pulled pork, salami and golden mozzarella served with steakhouse chips, salad and roasted garlic aioli.
