Elyse Wurm

Whitsundays Editor Elyse Wurm has reported on regional news for the past four years. Elyse got her start after completing a Bachelor of Media and Communications, then a Master of Publishing and Communications, at the University of Melbourne. She wrote feature articles for The Reporter newspaper in Ethiopia for two months to gain hands-on experience before landing back in Australia and scoring a job with the Warwick Daily News. Elyse worked predominantly as a court and crime reporter as well as a digital producer, but also covered human interest, council and rural news. In 2019, Elyse moved north to become the regional editor for the Whitsunday Times, Whitsunday Coast Guardian and Bowen Independent. During her tenure, the Whitsunday Times was named the Best Newspaper for 2020 with a circulation under 10,000 in the Queensland Country Press Association awards, with the Bowen Independent named third in the same category.
