Nova 106.9’s Kip Wightman welcomes first child

Nova 106.9’s Kip Wightman and his wife Amber have welcomed their first child together, with the breakfast announcer sharing the news on air this morning, adding that not everything went according to plan.

NOVA 106.9 presenter Kip Wightman and his wife Amber have welcomed their first child together.

The breakfast radio star announced the happy news on air with his Ash, Kip, Luttsy & Susie co-hosts on Thursday morning, revealing they had named the “healthy little boy” Rafael Victor Wightman.

Wightman said Rafael’s birth did not go exactly according to plan, with Amber requiring a c-section, but their son entered the world weighing 3.3kgs and measuring 52cm at 7.43am on Wednesday.

“Amber went into labour early through the night and we headed to Mater (hospital) and the baby wasn’t where it needed to be, there’s a technical term (breech) but his head was up near her ribs,” he said on air.

“So we ended up having a ceasar (caesarean section), which was full on but it was really good and everyone at Mater was excellent and looked after us really well.”

Wightman, who married Amber in 2017, said tennis legend Rafael Nadal had helped inspire the name while he was Down Under for the Australian Open in January.

“Amber’s already calling him Raffy, I’m calling him Raffa,” he told the top-rating show.

“We wanted a biblical name as well and it’s a Hebrew word as well so it’s nice.”

He told co-hosts Ash Bradnam, David “Luttsy” Lutteral and Susie O’Neill the baby’s middle name, Victor, is Amber’s father’s name.

“We figured my dad got to have the Wightman name carried on so this is the bit for Victor,” Wightman said.

He also added Rafael had “a good head of hair” as well as “a little bit on his back”.

Wightman said Amber was doing “really well” and the couple were in love with their new addition.

“She’s so in love with this baby, she just can’t stop looking at him and smiling, she just loves him, which almost makes me feel bad about it because I love him but she is just so smitten by him,” he said.
