BRISBANE’S 4KQ has surged through the ranks to become Brisbane’s second most listened to radio station overall behind FM juggernaut Nova 106.9, as ABC Brisbane and Hit 105 took a tumble.
While Nova held onto top spot overall, Monday to Sunday, in the fourth radio survey of 2019, with 11.7 per cent of the audience, 4KQ jumped a mammoth 1.2 points to 10.5 per cent to draw level with 97.3 in second position.
The result made them Brisbane’s most listened to AM station in what was a significant shake up.

4KQ breakfast show Laurel, Gary & Mark topped the AM options in their timeslot, with 10.4 per cent of the audience. They surpassed survey three AM breakfast winners, ABC Brisbane’s Craig Zonca & Loretta Ryan, who dropped 1 point to 8.7 per cent and were also topped by 4BC’s The Alan Jones Breakfast Show on 8.9 per cent.
4BC also passed ABC Brisbane in the overall ratings, with 7.8 per cent of the audience compared to 6.8 per cent respectively.
In a strong result, 4KQ won both the mornings timeslot, a growth of 1.7 points, and the AM drive options.
While Ray Hadley’s morning show on 4BC was overtaken by 4KQ, it continued to perform well in third as departing 4BC afternoons host Chris Smith had a small gain of 0.4 points.
It was announced this week that Steve Price would shift from 4BC’s night timeslot, which he has hosted for seven years, to afternoons with The Steve Price Show airing from 12pm to 3pm.
The reshuffle came after negotiations with Smith broke down and he will depart the network at the end of the month.
Triple M was Brisbane’s third most listened to station overall, Monday to Sunday, with 10.4 per cent of the audience, while Hit 105 dropped 1.2 points to slide from second spot to fourth overall with 9.7 per cent.
Breakfast show Stav, Abby and Matt also recorded a loss, dropping 1.3 points to tie for fourth spot with 97.3’s Bianca, Mike and Bob, behind Triple M in second and 4KQ in third.
Nova’s Ash, Kip, Luttsy & Susie retained the breakfast crown in a clean sweep of the surveys for 2019.
