COURTNEY Thorpe and Jarrod Wallace are expecting their first child together – a baby girl due in September.
The former Miss World Australia and the Gold Coast Titans prop, who became engaged on a trip to Paris last year, told The Sunday Mail they were “over the moon” about the happy news after doctors told them they were likely to face challenges conceiving.
“I nearly died when I saw the test – the first words out of my mouth were ‘holy crap’,” Thorpe, 28, said. “We are just really excited. It’s the best feeling.”
Thorpe, a presenter on Channel 7’s The Great Day Out, said the couple had hoped to have a baby before they tied the knot but had accepted it may not happen on their timeline when doctors suspected she could be suffering endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome.
“It was a bit of a shock to be told ‘you may not be able to do this the way you planned’,” she said.
“But she’s obviously my daughter because she’s stubborn and has decided to come anyway.”
Queensland Origin forward Wallace, who has two other daughters – Lara 6, and Peyton, 4 – said being a father was his “greatest achievement” and he was thrilled to expand his family.
“I am actually so excited to watch my little girls grow up together,” the 27-year-old said.
Thorpe, who has “always wanted to be a mum”, said she already felt so lucky to be part of Lara and Peyton’s lives and was excited to give them a sibling.
The couple, who began dating in 2017, said their whirlwind relationship had been “amazing”.
“Life changed instantly when we met each other,” Thorpe said.
Thorpe won’t be alone on her journey to motherhood, with a number of fellow Channel 7 presenters currently expecting including Queensland Weekender’s Chris Parsons and his wife Lu and Kip Wightman – who also co-hosts Nova 106.9 breakfast show - and his wife Amber expecting boys, as well as Great Day Out’s Jessica Skarratt, who along with husband Dave, is expecting her second child.
Behind the scenes, Great Day Out producer Sarah Bowers is expecting twins.
