Queensland TV personality, Abbie Chatfield, has unleashed a blistering response to former Married At First Sight contest Harrison Boon after he branded her “unmarriable” in a controversial Instagram video.
The saga erupted last Tuesday when the 2023 MAFS contestant made unsavoury remarks towards 28-year-old Chatfield, claiming she’s veering into a ‘danger zone’ because of her age and her apparently too-active dating life.
“She’s approaching 30, she’s entering the danger zone now. Riding the carousel from one relationship to the next. And guys are breaking up with her left, right and centre,” Boon said in his clip.
“As your age increases, and your sexual marketplace value decreases as a woman.”
Doubling down on his tirade, Boon coined the term ‘unmarriable’ for women like Chatfield, who, in his view, embody traits that make them undesirable for matrimony.
He suggested that such a stigma doesn’t stick to men because “we’re the ones doing the marrying. Men set the price of relationships and marriage, while women set the price of sex and dating.”
Not stopping there, Boon likened Chatfield and like-minded feminists to “cockroaches,” insinuating they scurry from the harsh light of truth.
Chatfield, undeterred by Boon’s onslaught, hit back during the latest episode of her podcast ‘It’s A Lot’, condemning Boon’s archaic views, especially his ‘cockroach’ comparison.
“Is he stuck in the 11th century?” she said.
“Calling someone a cockroach, that’s really disgusting, scary language.”
With her trademark wit, she rebuffed his insinuations about her personal life.
“You don’t know what sex I’m having with who you have no idea at my life,” she said.
Chatfield didn’t just stop at defending her life choices; she called out Boon’s failure to acknowledge the existence LGBTQ+ relationships, stating, “In his world, queer people don’t exist. Let’s just say that love did not win in 2018.”
Addressing Boon’s ‘danger zone’ comment about her age, Chatfield said, “I’ve never been happier, healthier, wealthier, hotter, have my life more together … But my value is [seen as] declining because I’m hitting the ‘danger zone’”
She celebrated growing older as a path to gaining more control over one’s life, learning boundaries, and not tolerating nonsense, especially from men like Boon.
“Every person that I know gets better with age … more and more as you near your 30s, you’re able to have more agency over what you’re doing … and you learn boundaries and when to not put up with men’s sh*t. A turn off for him”.
After Boon posted his original video, social media users, including some of Boon’s own followers, have sided with Chatfield, denouncing his views and likening him to the controversial figure Andrew Tate.
“You are the biggest misogynist I’ve ever seen. This live just proves that. Clearly just wanting the clout, you deserve no airtime” one person commented on Boon’s video, while another said “Australian Andrew Tate. How he has a platform is deeply concerning”.
