Sir Paul McCartney has landed in Brisbane but he won’t be wasting any time in the River City after his concert tonight, opting to jet back to his Queensland home away from home later tonight.
It has been confirmed the singer will be jumping straight back into his private jet and swiftly returning to the tranquil seclusion of Hamilton Island after his Suncorp Stadium show.
McCartney flew in from Hamilton Island to Brisbane just before 4pm on Wednesday, in time for his soundcheck at 4.30pm, with the show set to begin at 7pm.
Eager fans caught a glimpse of the superstar as he made his way to Suncorp Stadium.
Earlier, savvy plane enthusiasts spotted the musician’s private jet, the Air Alsie Dassault Falcon 7X bizjet D-ACFL, flying over the brilliant blue of the Coral Sea to land on the Whitsunday island’s tarmac on Sunday.
McCartney’s plane had departed from Sydney, and it was understood he was relaxing on the island before playing at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.
Yet those hoping to catch a glimpse of the songwriter in the Whitsundays were likely disappointed as traditionally, celebrities have managed to move about on Hamilton Island undetected.
The island is known for its tight security and footage of McCartney’s plane shows a clear tarmac with no spectators in sight.
Another world-famous and knighted muso had spent time on the island earlier this year, with Elton John reportedly staying two nights at the exclusive Glasshouse where rooms start from $8500 a night.
John later shared a video filmed at nearby Hayman Island, in which he thanked his fans for their support while standing on a balcony with the ocean in the background.
McCartney’s visit is sure to deepen the boasting rights of Hamilton Island which has already hosted a swath of big names including Taylor Swift, Johnny Depp, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Chris Hemsworth, Naomi Watts, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, Geoffrey Rush, Toni Collette, Collette Dinnigan, Megan Gale, Pink, and Carey Mulligan.
In September, the $4m plus place where George Clooney stayed was destroyed by fire.
There was also another Beatles member who graced the island’s shores with lead guitarist George Harrison once building a multimillion-dollar holiday home there.
Harrison bought a 2ha sublease in 1984 on which he built a South Pacific style property called Letsbeavenue with a thatched roof and impressive pool.
His wife Olivia Harrison told Architectural Digest in 2007 that her “shell-shocked” husband had wanted a sunny escape from loud noises, but that it had sometimes felt like a zoo with the “monitor lizards, wallabies and snakes at the windows looking in”.
