Brisbane’s B105 breakfast radio trio Stav Davidson, Abby Coleman, and Matt Acton, may soon give the Emmy-winning cartoon canine Bluey a run for her money.
The on-air personalities have revealed plans to release their own children’s book on Tuesday, with the ambitious hope of creating a literary franchise that could rival the global success of the Brisbane-based Blue Heeler.
The idea was sparked when Adam Freedman from online bookseller Booktopia joined the show to offer the radio hosts a book deal.
Despite Coleman openly admitting her dyslexia and Matt recalling he “failed Year 12,” Freedman was quick to reassure them.
“You guys talk to Brisbane every day,” he said.
“You know how to tell a story … have some fun, make people laugh, be emotional, have a connection with a reader. That is what makes you a perfect author.”
While Davidson and Acton jokingly floated the concept of a pop-up erotica book — complete with heaving bosoms — the trio swiftly shifted gears to a far more family-friendly genre: a children’s picture book.
“Guys, we could be coming up with the next Bluey here,” Acton said, prompting Abby to add, “A book series!”
Their excitement didn’t stop there.
The radio hosts dreamt up scenarios of Book Week appearances, classrooms across the city dressing up as their characters, and even a potential film adaptation.
Listeners were then called upon to submit their own story ideas, setting off a flurry of creative suggestions across Brisbane.
Leanne from Loganlea proposed a book titled “Brisbane Big Brown Snake,” inspired by the trio’s 2023 collaboration with confectionery giant Allen’s, which saw them create an exclusive brown snake lolly in tribute to the Brisbane River.
“You should keep going with the lolly and the idea of the big brown snake … you can give away a bag of lollies with a book,” she said.
Freedman hinted at potential author events and signings once the book hits shelves.
Although the book is still in the early planning stages, with no confirmed storyline or characters, the trio are set to become published authors by the end of the year.
