The international television phenomenon Bluey will star in her own tourist attraction in Brisbane – for real life.
In a major tourism coup for Queensland, Brisbane will be home to Bluey’s World – a 4000sqm immersive experience based at the Northshore Pavilion in Hamilton.
The mega-attraction will pay homage to the adorable cartoon blue heeler who has taken kids’ television by storm and exposed an entire generation of kids and parents around the globe to the beauty of Brisbane.
Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe and representatives from the BBC will make the announcement in Brisbane on Sunday – along with Bluey and her little sister Bingo.
The multimillion-dollar world-first attraction is expected to open in August, operating until Easter 2025, though tourism insiders hope the park will be such a huge hit it could become a permanent fixture.
Tourism and Events Queensland data estimates the attraction will pump about $18m into the state’s economy, but with the show a global juggernaut being screened or streamed in more than 60 countries, the true value of Bluey’s World could be far greater and spark an international Bluey boom for Brisbane.
In much the same way that fans of The Simpsons can step into Springfield at Universal Studios in the US, visitors to Bluey’s World will journey through a recreation of Bluey’s Queenslander home via life-size sets, interactive play areas and a soundtrack inspired by much-loved episodes.
Fans can visit Bluey and Bingo’s bedroom, lounge and kitchen and play beneath the shady branches of the poinciana tree in the backyard.
The attraction at the Northshore Pavilion will also feature dining and merchandise outlets and will be available for birthday parties.
Often featuring prominent landmarks such as South Bank, New Farm Park and the Gold and Sunshine coasts, Bluey has become one of Queensland’s greatest tourism ambassadors and that lure should now prove almost irresistible for fans of the show the world over.
Bluey’s World was born from a collaboration between BBC Studios and HVK Productions with support from the Queensland Government, TEQ, Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Economic Development Agency.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the state government had “backed Bluey from the very beginning” and the attraction would be a huge coup for the River City.
“Brisbane is at Bluey’s core and now the show is a global sensation, we want to invite fans from around the world to come and experience Bluey’s home,” she said.
“Queensland is a world-class place to live and play and I truly believe that is a big part of why Bluey has captured fans around the world.”
Mr Hinchliffe said it was a huge win for Bluey fans and Queensland tourism operators.
“Brisbane and our great Queensland lifestyle are the obvious choice for the world debut of Bluey’s World,” he said.
“The world-famous Brisbane-based Heeler family has taken global TV and streaming by storm with many embedded animated references in the show to the Queensland capital’s landmarks and lifestyle.”
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, a fan who regularly watches the show with his own children, said the attraction would draw people “to the city from around the globe”.
“Bluey is a homegrown Brisbane superstar who has captured the imagination of families worldwide,” he said. “This world-first event … will create local jobs and inject millions into our economy, with our restaurants, hotels and tourism experiences benefiting.”
