A blow to the Flinders Lane dining scene. Oter, the French project from the team behind Coda and Tonka (Kate and Mykal Bartholomew and Tom Hunter), which opened in the old Yu U site in mid-2016, had its final service on Saturday, March 24.

The restaurant opened with a boundary-pushing menu by ex-Pei Modern chef Florent Gerardin. The moody bunker, with its open kitchen, saw a changing of the guard in early 2017 as chef Jordan Clay took over and introduced a straighter contemporary French menu.

"Jordan Clay is an exceptional chef", explains business owner Tom Hunter, "and a pleasure to work with, I hope our paths cross again in the future, however Mykal and I have decided to put the business on the market."

Citing a short term lease and poor trading figures, the owners decided the numbers didn't stack up to engage in what they felt would be a necessary relaunch.

The restaurant earned and maintained a hat in the Age Good Food Guide 2017 and the first national Good Food Guide 2018.
