Just Open: Rice Paper Scissors, Fitzroy
If you've witnessed the bustle of pocket-sized CBD restaurant Rice Paper Scissors, you'll be pleased to know owners Rahmie Clowes and Shane Stafford have opened a second venue in Fitzroy.
The new Brunswick Street venture has the same name and a similar menu that encourages sticklers for cutlery to loosen up and let their fingers do the forking.
The hawker-style share plates draw from south-east Asia, with each mouthful a medley of hot and cold, sweet and sour. Try the twice-cooked pork belly in a sticky tamarind caramel sauce topped with a fragrant herb salad. It's authentic eating, enhanced by Australian produce and house-made sauces.
The original bluestone and brick walls, and dimly lit Edison bulbs shape a moody interior, though it's roomier and moves at a more relaxed pace than its city counterpart, with extra seating for larger groups and a function room upstairs.
Open Tue-Sun 5.30pm-late; Thu-Sun noon-3pm.
