‘We lost everything’: How wildfires leave psychological scars

Researchers found that about 4 per cent of the people affected by a bushfire in Victoria, Australia, were still suffering distress a decade later.

Jane Brown watched on television on Tuesday night as a large condominium complex in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood of Los Angeles went up in flames. It was her 92-year-old mother’s home.

By Wednesday morning, Ms Brown, 63, saw that the building was “just not there at all”.
