Washington| Former president Donald Trump has enjoyed a 10-point surge in support from Republican-leaning voters after the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s raid of his Florida home, but party faithful say the optics of the investigation may end up costing support from swing voters in the November midterm elections.
The latest Politico/Morning Consult poll over the weekend showed that if the 2024 Republican primary were held today, 57 per cent of Republican voters and Republican-leaning independents would vote for Mr Trump. This is up from 53 per cent in the July poll and shows a 10-point increase on his nearest rival, Florida governor Ron DeSantis.
