Former US senator Joe Manchin predicts Australia will have to accept quotas for steel and aluminium exports but urged calm over concerns for the alliance, saying Donald Trump will keep reliable partners close to supply goods America needs.
Mr Manchin also backed the “very amenable” Kevin Rudd to manage the relationship on the ground during the frenzied early days of the second Trump term, and urged Australia to funnel critical minerals to the US, rather than China, to stay on side.
