US federal prosecutors unsealed the indictment laying out the government’s case against former president Donald Trump on Friday (Saturday AEST), detailing their allegations that he mishandled classified documents after leaving office and obstructed the government’s efforts to reclaim them.

Jack Smith, the special counsel who is bringing the case, said in brief remarks that the rule of law is a bedrock principle of the United States.
