A diverse society has been united by a shared culture of rational values and trust, relegating quackery and conspiracy theories to social media fringe dwellers, and avoiding US-style culture wars over health measures such as mask-wearing.
Modern Australia – unlike the introduced infectious diseases of colonial times – has been determined to keep the virus out of vulnerable Indigenous communities.
