Celebrate the three threads of a bigger Australian story

Instead of symbolic debates and ‘Invasion Day’ protests, Australia’s Indigenous heritage, British inheritance and immigrant success story could all be celebrated on successive days.

Australia Day 2021 celebrated how this nation handled raging bushfire infernos and a deadly global pandemic as well as any other on Earth. A diverse society has been united by a shared culture of rational values and trust, relegating quackery and conspiracy theories to social media fringe dwellers, and avoiding US-style culture wars over health measures such as mask-wearing.

Modern Australia – unlike the introduced infectious diseases of colonial times – has been determined to keep the virus out of vulnerable Indigenous communities.
