New York | The Oscars are poised to do something on Sunday (Monday AEDT) that they haven’t done in a very long time: hand its top award to a blockbuster.

After years of favouring smaller movies like The Shape of Water and Nomadland, the clear best-picture favourite Oppenheimer – with just shy of $US1 billion($1.5 billion) in tickets sold – is steamrolling toward the kind of big-movie dominance the Academy Awards hasn’t seen in two decades.
