US, Israel and Hamas ‘reach tentative hostage deal’
Israel, the United States and Hamas are reportedly close to an agreement to free dozens of women and children held hostage in Gaza, in exchange for a five-day pause in fighting in the besieged Palestinian enclave.
Barring last-minute hitches, the release could begin in the next several days and lead to the first sustained pause in the devastating conflict in Gaza, which was triggered by the deadly Hamas militant attacks on Israel on October 7.
