The Coalition claims Palestinians are expecting the Albanese government to further erode long-standing support for Israel after Palestine’s de facto ambassador to Australia told Muslims not to punish Labor over its approach to the Middle East.

The skirmishing over the domestic political fallout from Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and now Lebanon will again be highlighted on Tuesday when an independent candidate is named to run against Education Minister Jason Clare in the south-west seat of Blaxland, where almost a third of the population is Muslim, the nation’s highest proportion of Islamic voters.
