Labour can claim a big mandate after its landslide victory, but the UK’s new government must also quickly prove itself, after winning just 34 per cent of the vote.

London | Sir Keir Starmer has insisted that Labour’s landslide victory in Thursday’s election was proof that the country wanted his party’s version of change, despite getting only 34 per cent of the overall vote.

“As the dust settles on Thursday’s result, what is becoming clear I think for all to see is the mood of the nation, of the country, is the mandate that we have to deliver change,” he said at a press conference in Downing Street on Saturday.
