Trump says Zelensky has a bad hand. But he still holds an ace

The US president can put the Ukrainians in existential peril, but cannot force them into peace. This gives Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron a chance to deal the Europeans back in.

London | “You don’t have the cards right now,” US President Donald Trump told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office on Friday (Saturday AEDT), as their relationship broke down on live television.

In the American dealmaker-in-chief’s eyes, the play is simple: Ukraine needs to fold, and leave him to cut the cards with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
