London | Caribbean countries are likely to move towards a republic more quickly than Australia, Canada and Pacific nations, where the debate is more finely balanced and the mechanics of change more daunting.
Of the 14 countries besides the UK that have King Charles as their head of state – known as “realms” – the Caribbean states are more republican-leaning because of the British empire’s association with slavery and exploitation.
