Sanjeev Gupta faces UK tax office blowtorch, auditor walkout

London | Sanjeev Gupta, the Dubai-based metals magnate behind the Whyalla Steelworks and a string of other Australian businesses, is battling efforts by British tax officials to wind up three of his companies over years-old debts.
Mr Gupta’s GFG Alliance has been drowning in debt ever since the collapse of his financier, Greensill Capital, run by Australian businessman Lex Greensill, which had lent some $7 billion.
