West escalate sanctions as Russia intensifies assault

London/Canberra/Washington | Russia has escalated its assault on Ukraine amid an increasingly vigorous Western pushback that includes ramping up military aid and targeting Moscow’s central bank with crippling sanctions.

As part of the step-up by the West, Australia hardened its response to include “lethal aid”. Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced his government would send money to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to buy arms to help the Ukrainians repel the invaders.
